Boba Tea is the name given to the refreshing milk teas and flavoured fruit teas served cold with chewy tapioca balls that you suck up through a fat straw! The tapioca balls are sometimes referred to as 'Boba' or 'Pearls', which some people say over time has evolved in to the word 'Bubble'. Boba comes from the small floating bubbles that are created by the shaking involved in making Bubble tea and Fruit Teas.
The origins of boba tea are found in Taiwan, where the drink was invented in the early 1980's. The Taiwanese were already enjoying this treat when boba tea started to become popular around the world. This new drink spread rapidly to other Asian countries before making it into Australia and The United States.
